There aren’t a lot of options remaining for those of us that want to avoid social media platforms that are toxic. One of the remaining options is to use a social media site called Bluesky, which is similar to Twitter (X) but without the features that make Twitter so evil.
Too much news is bad for us
One of the most important things we can each do is to control what information we allow into our brainspace.
It’s really important that we don’t shut ourselves off from all of the news, because one of the Elephant Party’s tactics is to overwhelm us with so much ridiculous news that we will all stop paying attention, and then they can get away with anything.
But we also need to build our mental and emotional strength. Part of the Elephant Party’s tactic to overwhelm us is not just about the quantity of news, but also the outrageousness of the news. They know that human brains that are overloaded with too much of any feeling–especially outrage–start to get numb to the emotion in order to protect us. I’m glad our brains know how to do this! But it means that we need to control what information we take in, so we can stay informed and take action, but without losing our emotional strength.
Find trustworthy news sources
Some of the “news” channels/newspapers are owned by people like the CEO of Amazon–someone that doesn’t even know what journalism is, and definitely never heard that there’s a thing called journalistic ethics. These spaces are getting more and more toxic. There are still awesome journalists there, but owners like Amazon are more interested in avoiding lawsuits for unfair business practices than how bad journalism will ruin our lives.
